Very rare and with a very impressive bust type
Lot 5153
Constantine II, as Caesar, 316-337. Follis (Bronze, 19 mm, 3.01 g, 6 h), Lugdunum, 321. CONSTANTINVS I (sic!) IVN•COS•II Laureate bust of Constantine II to left in consular robes, holding Victory on globe in his right hand. Rev. BEATA TRANQVILLITAS / C - R / PLG Globe set on altar inscribed VO/TIS / XX; above, three stars. Bastien 96. RIC -. Very rare and with a very impressive bust type. Minor traces of corrosion, otherwise, good very fine.

From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, formed since 1969.

While the consular coins from Lyon in 321 are very rare, several different bust types were listed in RIC VII, all but one known from a single example. The bust on this coin does not fit any of the types listed by Bruun, however. Constantine is wearing a consular trabea and holding a Victory on a globe in one hand, and the other hand is not shown. The obverse, moreover, shows a rare but not unique spelling error: 'CONSTANTINVS I IVN' (cf. RIC p. 131, note 141).
